Iguaçu Falls, Brazil
ICOTOM 2027 will take place in Iguaçu Falls, Brazil, from July 11 to 16, 2027.
ICOTOM
The International Conference on Texture of Materials brings together a highly focused international community at the interface between theoretical and applied studies.
The International Conference on Texture of Materials (ICOTOM) is the triennial gathering of the international community of engineers and scientists who study the spatial anisotropy of material behavior induced by the crystallographic nature of materials. These studies are of paramount importance in the development of new metallic alloys with improved properties (e.g., strength, formability, corrosion properties etc.) or in elucidating the properties of a wide variety of geological minerals.
The very first ICOTOM conference was organized in 1968 in Clausthal (Germany) and since the late 1970s the conference has been held every three years. The last five editions were held in Metz (France) in 2024, Osaka (Japan) in 2021, Saint George (Utah, USA) in 2017, Dresden (Germany) in 2014, and Mumbai (India) in 2011. As a rule of thumb, there is a continental rotation between Europe, Asia and the Americas. So far, the American editions have been held in North America; the 2027 edition in Brazil will be the first Latin American venue.
The average number of participants at the ICOTOM conference is about 300, with delegates from both academic and industrial organizations. The vast majority of delegates (> 80%) are active contributors to the conference, i.e. they contribute to the conference with an oral or poster presentation.
The community is highly focused, working at the narrow interface between theoretical and applied studies, with a solid knowledge-based approach at its core.
